Dear 2B Families,
I enjoyed meeting with you again at Curriculum Night.
If you missed Curriculum Night, please see the topics discussed in this pdf of the PowerPoint I shared. If you have any questions, please reach out.
Most of our families have connected to ClassDojo! If you haven't already joined, please look for the invitation emailed to you almost two weeks ago. Let me know if you need any assistance.
Work is being sent home this week! I know you are anxious to see what your child has been up to. Delivering feedback on academic progress is so important. I appreciate your patience, however, as Ms. Cloward and I make up for our late arrival on the scene this year.
This next weekend is an R&R, and there is no school on Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd. That means, there will be no homework on Friday.
REMINDERS
Remember to initial your child's planner each evening to verify his or her reading and that you have scoped out the homework. If you miss a night or two, feel free to play catch up. Keep in mind Ms. Cloward and I try our best to initial the planners every Thursday. We look for your initials and any comments you have left, and then either her or I will initial as well. Please note, that this verifies your child's reading each night.
SPALDING
This week students have 30 spelling words. This will be the norm going forward, except when our schedules do not allow it (as during shorter weeks, special events, etc.). On Monday, we will be spelling wife, state, July, head, story, open, short, lady, reach, better. On Tuesday, we will be spelling water, round, cost, price, become, class, horse, care, try, and move. On Wednesday, we will spell delay, pound behind, around, burn, camp, bear, bare, clear, and clean.

LITERATURE
We will be reading chapters 11-13 of Charlotte's Web. Our vocabulary words are exertions, bewilderment, miracle, idiosyncrasy, slogan, baser, org, radial, and radiant. We will find out what it means to be "Some Pig."

POETRY
We start memorizing a new poem this week. It is by Rachel Lyman Field and is called "Something Told the Wild Geese." Your child should be ready and confident enough to recite by September 20th. Help them prepare with the Recitation Rubric. Recitations of "Bed in Summer" continue into this next week.

GRAMMAR
Your child is continuing to learn capitalization rules and how to use them. We will explore rules of punctuation as well this week. Capitalization Rule 1 is "We always capitalize the first word of a sentence." Help us emphasis the "ALWAYS" in this rule. Do you see your child breaking this rule? Ask him or her, "When do we capitalize the first word of a sentence?" Hopefully, your child will respond with a smile, "ALWAYS!"

WRITING
This week we are exploring capitalization and complete sense with exemplary sentences from Charlotte's Web. We will write about the miraculous discovery of Charlotte's Web.

MATHEMATICS
This week we are heading right into our math facts! Addition, subtraction, and looking at word problems. What are some word problems you and your child can create from everyday activities like grocery shopping or cooking? It will be very helpful to work at home with flashcards, both addition and subtraction as a warmup.

HISTORY
We will continue our study of the geography of the Americas this week. Your child will learn about Central and South America. Ask you child to tell you who Simon Bolivar is and where the Andes Mountains are located.

SCIENCE
We will finish up our unit on the seasons this week. The last season we talk about is summer! Ask your child about how the Earth's tilt affects the season.

Mrs. Dill
