Week 11

Hello!
Welcome to Parent Conference week. I so look forward to meeting with all of you!

Please make sure your child's costume proposal for our annual Read-a-thon event (on the 31st) is turned in to me by this Friday, the 25th. See last week's blog for more information and some helpful details.

Half days are dismissed at 11:45, 12:05, and 12:25. There is homework this week!

Here is our week of academics:

MATHEMATICS
We are finishing up our length unit with some quiz check-ins! If you have not sent your child with a ruler to school quite yet, please do so. Emphasize with your child that when they are measuring something, they start at the 0 and not the 1! We are looking forward to discussing math progress with you at conferences.

LITERATURE
Introducing the The Boxcar Children Diorama project!
Using a shoebox, scholars are going to create a diorama showing the Alden children’s home— the boxcar! They will decorate the outside of the box to look like a boxcar and include five specific items from the story that show how the children have turned their shelter into a home. This assignment will not be due until the 9th of December. Most of the work for this project will be completed at home. Please watch for the rubric coming home this week.

POETRY
Scholars should be focus on memorizing the last four lines of the second stanza of "Merry Autumn Days" by Charles Dickens. Recitations begin Tuesday, October 29th.

SPALDING
There are 30 words this week. On Monday, we spell push, point, within, body, field, belongs, cheese, earn, edge, feather. Tuesday's words are fence, funny, going, honey, letters, orange, pocket, shoes, shoe, stairs. Wednesday's words are stream, talks, tiny, words, trust, extra, dress, beside, teach, happen.

GRAMMAR & WRITING
Second grade scholars add The Article Adjective Jingle to their repertoire this week. They learn to how to classify article adjectives as well.

There is no History or Science this week!
