Week 15

Hello 2B Families

The Winter Concert is this Wednesday!

Our Class Spelling Bee will also be on Wednesday. Here is the list of words that students can practice to prepare.

Here is our week of academics:

MATHEMATICS
We are placing our focus on simple division this week! For this entire unit, we are explaining the basics of how to divide and multiply before heading into the fact families. This way your child will understand how to take apart and solve each problem, even if they don't have their facts memorized quite yet!

HW
Monday: Quiz 5.1 B Worksheet
Tuesday: Workbook, Exercise 5, Pg. 100-102
Wednesday: NONE, due to the Winter Concert
Thursday: Workbook, Exercise 7, Pg. 106-108
Friday: Quiz 5.2 B Worksheet

LITERATURE
Second grade scholars are reading Chapter 10 and 11 of The Boxcar Children. We will be looking closely at the following vocabulary words: free-for-all, bleachers, indeed, shook. We will discuss responsibility and availability as character traits in the story. Your child should start working on the design of the inside of his or her boxcar diorama.

SPELLING
There are 30 spelling words this week. On Monday, scholars spell case, while, also, return, office, great, Miss, miss, who, died, and die. On Tuesday, scholars spell changing, change, few, pleasant, please, picture, pitcher, pitch, money, and ready. On Wednesday, scholars spell omit, anyway, eight, breakfast, chance, climb, coffee, color, and contains.

GRAMMAR and WRITING
In writing, scholars will focus on writing different types of sentences (questions, exclamations, statements). They will explore common and proper nouns in grammar.

HISTORY

We have the test over Ancient China on Monday. The study guide was sent home on Friday (11/15). After the test, we begin our unit on Ancient Greece! Ancient Greece is one of the most significant civilizations we study in second grade. This was the beginning of democracy, the Olympics, and is the foundation of so much of what your child will study as they progress through Archway and into the Prep. Next week we will begin with a lesson on the geography of Ancient Greece and then talk about the city-state of Athens.

SCIENCE
We are excited to study insects next week! We will be introduced to several insects and learn what makes an insect an insect! Ask your child what body parts an insect has.

Have a good week!
Mrs. Dill
