I hope you spent the Thanksgiving holiday pleasantly!
Here is our second grade week:
MATHEMATICS
This week we are diving deeper into Multiplication with our 2s and 3s. Please encourage your child to practice their skip counting by 2s and 3s at home as this will certainly help during lessons!

Tuesday: Workbook Pg. 117-120
Wednesday: Workbook Pg. 125-129
Thursday: Workbook Pg. 125-129

LITERATURE
It is time for scholars to assemble their boxcar dioramas. They are due, Monday, December 9th. We read the last two chapters of The Boxcar Children this week. Our vocabulary words are mills, waited on, and homesick. We discuss patience and hospitality as they relate to the characters in our story.
POETRY
Students should have their two stanzas as “The Night Before Christmas” memorized and ready to recite by December 16th.
SPELLING
Scholars will spell 29 words this week. On Monday we spell daily, day, eagle, fancy, fly, forest, freeze, gentle, grow, and holes. On Tuesday we spell hotel, iron, living, live, monkey, myself, noise, pencil, pie, and pull. On Wednesday we spell sew, sow, so, steam, thread, thunder, tried, try, vein.
GRAMMAR and WRITING
Scholars practice classifying sentences. They will also build sentences based on part-of-speech labels and then revise them using specific strategies. Reviewing jingles and completing a Chapter Checkup will prepare students for next week’s chapter test. Our copywork sentences this week will help us examine the organizational decisions writers make. We continue to narrate chapters from The Boxcar Children.
HISTORY
Next week, we are continuing our study of ancient Greece. Your child will learn about the exciting events During the Persian Wars. Ask your child why a 26.2 mile long race is called a marathon. We will also learn about lots of gods and goddesses next week!
SCIENCE
We are continuing our insect unit! Next week, we will learn all about several social insects: honey bees, paper wasps, ants, and termites. See if your child can spot any of these social insects in your backyard or local park. Ask them why these insects are social.
