Week 22

Dear 2B Families,

I hope you had a restful weekend!

We still have open spots in a number of our spring clubs. Below is a list of clubs with spots still available.
Please go to ArchwayArete.Configio.com to register for clubs.

2-3 Art Club: Tuesdays
2-5 French Club: Fridays
2-5 Sports Club: Mondays

Leveled readers are coming home on Monday along with a reading log. Please sign each day. Reading logs are collected at the end of the week.

Here is our week!

MATHEMATICS
We are finishing up our addition and subtraction mental math unit with review and a few quizzes. Please help your child re-check their work before moving on to the next problem! It can be fairly easy to miss a step or miscalculate a math fact. Every point counts!

HW
Tuesday: WB Exercise 10 and 11, Pg. 24-25
Wednesday: Cumulative Test B
Thursday: WB, Review 8, Pg. 28-29
Friday: Xtra Math practice

POETRY
Scholars are working to memorize stanza 3 of "Smart" by Shel Silverstein. Remember, they will be memorizing the entire poem by February 6th.

LITERATURE
We continue to read and enjoy Little House in the Big Woods. We finish reading Chapter 3 and then read through Chapter 4. We see how our characters celebrate Christmas this week.

SPELLING
We have 20 spelling words since this week is shortened. Please see the breakdown below.
Tuesday: apple, ate, author, bread, brown, dog, eats, fast, food, jump
Wednesday: sleep, wash, yellow, nine, face, miss, rides, ride, tree, sick

WRITING
Little House in the Big Woods is full of moral vignettes that illustrate the dangerous aspects of the frontier setting. This week scholars summarize two of these episodes, "The Story of Pa and the Voice in the Woods" and "Prince and the Panther." We then copy and write from dictation a exemplar sentence about Pa Ingalls' long rifle.

GRAMMAR
Scholars will classify sentences with prepositional phrases this week and will add The Preposition Flow jingle to their repetoire, before finally composing sentences from all the grammar labels learned this year.

SCIENCE
Next week, we will learn all about the digestive system! Your child should be able to describe the important organs that help digest our food and nourish our bodies. We will also be experiencing a hands-on demonstration that may have some of us grossed out!

HISTORY
Next week, we wrap up the Constitution unit with a discussion and deeper dive into the phrase, "We the people..." We will also spend some time reviewing vocabulary in preparation for our upcoming assessment.

Comments

  1. For the leveled readers, are they to read the same book each night and only write their comments once? Thank you
