Scholars continue to work towards mastery of the Preamble to the United States Constitution. Please help scholars be prepared to recite by February 28th.

SPELLING
There are 20 words this week. We continue to incorporate cursive more and more into our homework assignments this week. Please refer to the homework sheet for directions on how to support students as they complete practice at home. Tuesday's words are judge, weather, whether, worth, contain, figure, sudden, throw, threw. Wednesday's words are personal, everything, rate, chief, perfect, second, slide, farther, duty, intend.

LITERATURE
Spring and the summertime come to our characters in Little House in the Big Woods. We explore lines of verse from our story and copy them and continue to summarize passages as we read.

GRAMMAR and WRITING
Scholars begin the writing process for an explanatory paragraph. They will create a prewriting map and then compose a rough draft before learning about using transition words and writing titles.

SCIENCE
This week, we begin a new unit all about simple machines. Review the following simple machines with your student: lever, pulley, wheel and axle, wedge, inclined plane, and screw. See if you can find examples of each in your home or neighborhood.

HISTORY
We are wrapping up the unit on the War of 1812 this week. Our last lesson will cover the Battle of New Orleans and then your student will take a short, 11 point quiz, on Friday.

Have a good rest of the week!
Mrs. Dill
