Remote Learning, Week 2

Dear 2B Families,

Welcome to the second week of remote learning.

I hope this blog post finds you well.

Here is the link to Typing Quest:

This is the typing program we use at school. Your child should know his or her username or password. If they have trouble remembering it, please send me an email or ClassDojo message.

I and Ms. Cloward were privileged to connect with many of you this past week via email, ClassDojo, and by phone. While, this communication was nice, we were left wanting to connect more meaningfully (we miss our students!). So, I am excited to announce the chance for us to do just that!

Please join us for a special 2B Zoom meeting this Tuesday, March 31 at 10:00 AM.

Ms. Cloward and I are hosting the meeting. All 2B students are invited. We will be taking the opportunity to catch up and build community!

Zoom is a platform for video conferencing.

REMINDERS

Remember, you can click on this link to retrieve this week’s instructional packet. The password is ACA!2020.

The material has been separated into two parts this week, Packet A contains all of the instructional material but is designed for the parent. This does not need to printed unless you would like to have a hard copy. Packet B contains only the student material. This is what needs to be printed. All of the material will be made available to those families picking up a printed copy at the school this morning.

Here is our week of academics…

SPALDING
There are ten words to review this week. The instructions for this have been clarified from last week. Please note the changes!

LITERATURE
Scholars finish reading Sarah, Plain and Tall. The literature lesson looks very similar to last week. There is a chapter of reading each day and then comprehension questions for each chapter. There are only nine chapters in this book, so by Thursday scholars should finish the book. On Friday, there is a special activity planned! Please refer to the packet for more information. You may want to check this out in advance in order to help scholars prepare.

READING
Please have your child read 30 minutes each day and log their reading. What scholars have to read for literature can contribute to this total.

GRAMMAR
Each day, students will practice classifying sentences. When we classify a sentence, we are analyzing the different parts of a sentence. Scholars will parse out the part of speech for each word in a sentence and tag each word with an abbreviated label. Scholars are very familiar with this process!

MATHEMATICS
Continue to have your child practice facts each day. XtraMath is the recommended way to accomplish this task.

We will be reviewing fractions this week and also completing some cumulative reviews. These reviews cover a range of second grade topics. Please see the packet for a daily schedule.

SCIENCE
Scholars will enjoy reviewing simple machines in science this week. There will be no history content this week.

Have a pleasant week! Please reach out if you have any questions.

Mrs. Dill
