Remote Learning Week 3

Hello 2B Families

If you are having technical difficulties with Google Classroom, submit inquiries here: https://theveeya.com/GreatHeartsFamilyHelp/

All learning material for your child will now be available on Google Classroom. Once you have joined our Google Classroom, Ms. Cloward can assign your child his or her leveled reader for the week. You will also be able to submit Week 1 and 2 packets.

This week is a four-day week and next week is as well. There is no school on April 10th (Friday) nor on April 13th (Monday).

Zoom meetings will be recurring each week. Please mark your calendars for every Tuesday and Friday at 10:00-10:30 AM. Tuesday's session will focus on community building. Friday's session will be for academic tutoring. All students are invited. You will receive meeting invitations via email. I am taking measures to make sure our Zoom calls safe and secure.

You will be able to pick up your child's belongings from the school this week. Please see this letter for specific instructions on how and when to do this. Keep in mind that library books can be returned at the time referenced in this letter.

Here is our week of academics:

Academics have been pared down somewhat as you and your child learn to navigate Google Classroom. Do not be surprised if a day is missing content from a particular subject. This is intentional.

SPELLING
Scholars have ten review spelling words this week. I hope the instructional video I posted for each day on Google Classroom is helpful!

READING
Please have your child read 30 minutes each day and log his or her reading. Leveled readers will be assigned this week. Ms. Cloward will look forward to meeting briefly with your child to hear him or her read. This is something she will be doing weekly. Sign up here to schedule your weekly time.

Remember, Raz-Kids is an excellent resource to find leveled reading material. Here is a book list put out by the Great Hearts network.

LITERATURE
We begin reading The Cricket in Times Square. This wonderful children's classic is by George Seldon. Keep in mind that if you purchased classics to keep at the start of the school year, your child likely has a copy at home.

MATHEMATICS
Scholars are practicing addition and subtraction with money this week.
XtraMath should be done daily. It takes five to ten minutes!
HISTORY
Scholars will read about the impact of western migration on Native American populations and on the herds of bison that once roamed the Great Plains.

SPECIALS
Please reach out to specialists teachers if you have specific questions regarding the material they have provided for your child this week.

I feel like I missed something...

Please stay tuned for a Zoom invitation to this week's meetings.

Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Dill
